{"id":7088,"date":"2018-08-30T15:40:19","date_gmt":"2018-08-30T13:40:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/studentnewsgrid.com\/?p=7088"},"modified":"2018-08-30T15:40:19","modified_gmt":"2018-08-30T13:40:19","slug":"nsfas-2019-opens-next-monday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/studentnews.africa\/sng\/2018\/08\/30\/nsfas-2019-opens-next-monday\/","title":{"rendered":"NSFAS 2019 is open"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Minister of Higher Education Naledi Pandor released a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nsfas.org.za\/content\/NSFAS%202019%20Application%20Open%2003%20September%202018.pdf\">statement<\/a> today announcing that the 2019 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nsfas.org.za\/content\/index.html\">National\u00a0Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS)<\/a> applications will be opened on Monday, September\u00a03. After <a href=\"https:\/\/studentnewsgrid.com\/2018\/07\/nsfas-backlog-halts-new-applications\/\">numerous delays, problems and protests<\/a>, it had been decided to halt the application process, which normally starts on August 1 each year.<\/p>\n<p>The institution has put in place a comprehensive communications plan by partnering with institutions of\u00a0higher learning and training, the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), community structures and\u00a0organisations to ensure that all eligible students are reached.\u00a0Once a student has applied to NSFAS, a maximum waiting period before getting a notice of acknowledgement is\u00a0one week. Should a student not receive the acknowledgement, they are requested to call NSFAS\u2019s toll free call centre, which is 08000 NSFAS (67327).<\/p>\n<p>The statement also outlined progress made in\u00a0in resolving NSFAS issues:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Staff members have been deployed to all institutions to address the bottlenecks that\u00a0have resulted.<\/li>\n<li>With funds available, steady progress is being made in getting support to qualifying students.<\/li>\n<li>Institutions and SRCs have been working to ensure that students complete and sign the necessary agreements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Of the 273,000 students entering at TVET colleges and universities for the first time, a total of 211,000\u00a0have received the relevant funds, while close to 239,000 of the 241,000 returning students have been successfully\u00a0linked to the system.<\/p>\n<p>Students are urged to sign any outstanding NSFAS bursary agreements to ensure that their 2019 applications proceed smoothly.
