As journalists continue to protest against the SABC for censoring and skewing their media coverage, an online petition “Motsoeneng out, free the SABC” has started in support of journalist protests.
The Petition is to be handed over to the Communications Minister, Faith Muthambi and the board of SABC. The petition demands the removal of Hlaudi Motsoeneng and his policies as well as the reinstatement of journalists who spoke out against him. The “Motsoeneng out, free the SABC” petition makes it clear that Motsoeneng “can try muzzle the media, but he can’t silence the internet!” Various social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter are being used which has resulted in 18,391 signatures so far.
