The FIFA tournament in support of the Lesika children’s home in Mmakwane kick-started on August 2.
“All the contributions made during the tournament went to charity home as a means of support from our portfolio of Sports and Social[sic]”, said the coordinator, Thato Bolankwe. He added that the tournament also aims to foster positive relations among residence students.
“It doesn’t mean that we played just for charity only, but this has an impact also on our academics since it teaches everyone about time management. The impact it does on the participants’ academics was to refresh their minds from school work, and engage in some activities,” said Steve Biko residence prime Thabo Motaung.
“We managed to achieve our goal because other students were asking me on when we will be doing the tournament again, and we manage to use the money we made that day to buy toys for children’s home that is in Mmakwane,” said Bolankwe.
The top three winners of the tournament were awarded bronze, silver and gold medals. “This just shows that no matter what you are doing, you need to focus, concentrate and be patient because good things come to those who seek them”, said Motaung.
“The challenge we had was that more people wanted to participate so we couldn’t finish on time”, added Bolankwe.
