On 20 May Professor Anton Stoltz died from complications arising from surgery. Prof. Stoltz was a top infectious diseases expert and head of the Division of Infectious Diseases at UP.
Vice Chancellor and Principal of the University of Pretoria, Prof. Kupe, sent an email expressing his condolences and celebrating Prof. Stoltz’s career. Prof. Kupe mentioned Prof. Stoltz’s successes in biochemistry, tuberculosis research and infectious diseases.
Since February, Prof. Stoltz dedicated his time to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic despite facing personal setbacks in his own health. “He has yet again proved his dedications to bettering the lives of others, and will forever be remembered for his clinical excellence, his dedication to research, his unfaltering leadership as well as his unwavering love for his children and wife.”
Prof. Stoltz held various positions of prominence, including Principal Medical Subspecialist and Head of the Division of Infectious Diseases in Internal Medicine at Gauteng Health/University of Pretoria, Head of the Foundation of Professional Development’s Infectious Diseases Unit, Principal Medical Researcher for the Medical Research Council and Principal Medical Specialist for Ndlovu Care Group. The Professor was also a consultant to the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research.
Prof. Kupe said in his e-mail. “We mourn the loss of this talented hero, who devoted his life to saving the lives of others”.
