Voice of Wits, is a unique Campus Radio Station that is positioned as a Johannesburg Community Radio Station catering for university students, the youth in Johannesburg Metro and surrounding areas.
VOW 88.1 is managed by volunteers from the Wits Student community and the youth from the surrounding Johannesburg Communities. These young radio activists are responsible for packing high-quality content offered by the station every day, without fail. In 2022 the station embarked on an aggressive brand positioning strategy that has driven the re-introduction of the station with Wits University and the Johannesburg communities, re-branding and re-aligning the station with the established Wits University brand, strengthening our programming mandate, by training our programming and news teams, introducing a new on-air play-out system, and updating business management operations.

Station manager, Martin Vilakazi expressed that this is the first time that Voice of Wits has won the Station of the Year at Radio awards in the history of the stations exitance. ‘’This goes to show that what we do at the station really matters, more importantly because Wits has stood the test of time at winning prestigious awards across all departments, respectively. We are built to be winners!”
The station has recently received a brand facelift that aligns with the core of what we do as a youth station. The station, a true voice for the University of Witwatersrand remains committed towards the young people and offer them workplace exposure to explore their talents in the media space.
