Access to education is a fundamental human right. For many students, financial hardship may stand in the way of completing their studies. Recognising the challenges students face, the Legal Practitioners Fidelity Fund provides financial assistance to those in need, prioritising applicants in serious financial need, and also considering students with outstanding academic merit.
The Legal Practitioner’s Fidelity Fund understands the importance of a good education. Without qualified lawyers, South Africa’s justice system would collapse, leaving citizens without professional guidance to navigate the complexities of the legal world. The collapse of South Africa’s legal system would also mean the end of a just society. Also, the lack of qualified lawyers could lead to misinformation spread by fraudsters disguised as qualified legal professionals.
To maintain South Africa’s current trust in legal professionals, the Legal Practitioners Fidelity Fund seeks to support aspiring legal professionals in making their dreams a reality. With the Legal Practitioners Fidelity Fund’s bursary, BA (Law), B Comm (Law), B Luris, B Proc, LLB and students pursuing a similar qualification in serious financial need or with outstanding academic merit are encouraged to apply for assistance in furthering their studies. This initiative provides financial relief and is a step towards ensuring South Africa’s legal system remains highly skilled and accessible.
To be eligible for the bursary, students must be in the first semester of their second year at the time of application. The bursary provides financial support for two years, covering tuition for the third and fourth years of study. Additionally, third-year students are also eligible to apply, with successful applicants receiving funding for their final year.
Many former bursary recipients have gone on to establish successful careers, demonstrating the lasting impact of this financial support. Law students wishing to be part of the bursary programme can get all the information on the Legal Practitioner’s Fidelity Fund’s website at fidfund.co.za/bursaries and check LPFF social media pages for updates.
